About the event
The Old Mutual Two Oceans Marathon is a landmark event on the global endurance calendar, drawing over 27,000 runners to Cape Town each April. At its heart is the iconic 56 km Ultra Marathon, famed for its sweeping views of the Cape Peninsula—Chapman's Peak, Hout Bay, and Constantia Nek—earning it the title "the world's most beautiful marathon." The race adheres to IAAF and national athletics standards, delivering top-tier competition across both the Ultra and a massively popular 21 km Half Marathon, South Africa’s largest. Starting in Newlands and finishing at the University of Cape Town, both routes blend city, coast, and mountain terrain. Beyond the main races, the weekend offers fun runs for families, trail runs through Table Mountain National Park, and the International Friendship Run along Sea Point promenade—creating a festive, inclusive atmosphere that spans the city.
