DICK'S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon
About the event
The Pittsburgh Marathon is one of the most established distance races in the U.S., first held in 1985 and traditionally run on the first Sunday in May. The event includes the marathon, half marathon, marathon relay, 5K, and kids’ races, drawing more than 25,000 participants across all distances. The marathon course is USATF-certified and a Boston Marathon qualifier, notable for its hilly terrain and river crossings. Runners traverse all three of Pittsburgh’s rivers and cross five bridges, passing through diverse neighborhoods such as Oakland, Shadyside, Bloomfield, and the Strip District before finishing near Point State Park. The course is known as both scenic and challenging, making it a favorite for athletes seeking a test of endurance. Race weekend is also famous for its community support, with over 60 local bands, thousands of spectators, and neighborhood groups providing energy and entertainment along the route.
