SILVER CITY DOWNTOWN CRITERIUM FUN RACES
One of the most popular events at the Tour of the Gila is watching the stars of the future take on their bicycles, tricycles and sometimes even scooters as kids of all ages take to the streets of historic downtown Silver City during the Downtown Criterium. The employees of 1st New Mexico Bank of Silver City are back this year to organize this town favorite. All kids 12 and under race free! Helmets must be worn and parents or guardians must sign registration for children under the age of 18. Free T-shirts for participants while they last! Podium awards will be held after the races. Adults, bring your bike and join in the fun: Challenge others and battle it out at the citizen races this year!
SUNDAY CITIZEN ROAD RACE
Open to all racers age 13 and up. Grab that bike and test yourself on this mountainous 31-mile portion of the Gila Monster Road Race. Starts at Camp Thunderbird (3951 NM-35) and winds up through the scenic Gila National Forest to the historic mining village of Pinos Altos. A SAG wagon will be provided, but be prepared to repair any flats you may have. Podium awards will take place at the finish. Hang out and take in the excitement as all the categories finish in Pinos Altos, ending with the UCI races.
