About the event
The Sun Moon Lake Marathon offers a rare opportunity to run through one of Taiwan’s most scenic national parks. Starting at the Xiangshan Visitor Center, the marathon route circles the iconic Sun Moon Lake and passes cultural landmarks like Wenwu Temple, Xuanzang Temple, and the Ropeway Station. The 42.195 km marathon features a total elevation gain of 948 m (3,111 ft), making it a challenging yet rewarding course for experienced runners.
Runners can also choose from a 29K ultra half marathon with 615 m (2,018 ft) of elevation or a 6K walking event. All timed races are certified by AIMS and serve as AbbottWMM Age Group Qualifiers. Start times are staggered from early in the morning and shuttle service is available from Shuishe and Taichung. Organizers offer support throughout the route, with frequent aid stations and clear logistics for international participants. Participation is capped, and early registration is encouraged.
