About the event
The Great Welsh Marathon Events offer runners a rare blend of coastal scenery and fast, flat racing, set against the backdrop of Pembrey Country Park in Carmarthenshire, Wales. Held on a closed-road, multi-distance course, the event features a marathon, half marathon, and 10K, all beginning on the smooth tarmac of the National Closed Road Cycle Circuit. From there, participants wind through the park’s green trails before joining the scenic Millennium Coastal Path—a wide, paved route with expansive sea views and minimal elevation. The marathon continues through North Dock and past Machynys Golf Club, while half marathon runners turn at Pwll, returning through Burry Port harbour. With a maximum elevation of just 18 meters and only 110 meters of gain over 42.2 km, this is a course built for personal bests, first-time marathoners, and experienced runners alike. It is Wales’ oldest marathon.
