About the event

BigMud is the first event in the Classic Element Trail Series, a bold four-part challenge inspired by the primal elements—Earth, Water, Fire, and Air. As the embodiment of Earth, BigMud is a celebration of grit, terrain, and nature in its rawest form. BigMud features two single-lap trail runs through the muddy, undulating landscape of the Meon Valley. Runners can choose between a Marathon or a 16-mile distance, both starting at Queen Elizabeth Country Park in Hampshire. The course kicks off with a 518 ft climb up Butser Hill—the highest point in the South Downs—not once, but twice. From there, expect a mix of tough ascents, woodland tracks, and rolling countryside trails before finishing back at the base of Butser Hill. This is not just a run—it’s a full-body battle with the Earth beneath your feet.

Highlights

Conquer rugged climbs and muddy trails in the most grounded leg of the Classic Element Series.

Tackle the South Downs' highest peak at both the start and finish of your journey.
