About the event
The Belfast City Marathon is Northern Ireland’s largest mass participation sporting event, attracting over 22,000 runners, walkers, and relay teams each year. The full marathon start is at Stormont Estate and winding through all four quadrants of Belfast before finishing at Ormeau Park. The route includes urban segments, residential stretches, and key landmarks, with several relay handoff points and strong course support throughout. The event also features an 8-mile walk and a team relay, making it accessible across ability levels. Now in its 40+year, the race continues to grow, with significant community and volunteer involvement. Public transport and free shuttle services are coordinated for participants and spectators, and road closures are managed citywide to ensure runner safety. The marathon also supports local charities, with donation points and clothing drop-offs integrated into race logistics.
